2004 Dec 21: Solstice Greetings!
May holiday festivities brighten your life, and peace be with you in the new year.
The photo of a recent sunrise at Higgins Beach in Scarborough, Maine, has been embellished with a shooting star. However, the image of the flaming meteor is lifted from another photo of its passage over this same beach earlier in the fall. Here I am indulging my perception of the edge of space as analogous to the shoreline of a continent, while updating the Christmas image of a traveler following a transient star. Both photos are courtesy of Steve Seabury.
2004 Aug 25: Summer Fun!
Summer 2004 is rapidly drawing to a close, and we'll be missing two daughters at University after next weekend. Amy will be an only child! The thumbnails will connect you to summer photo albums, with selections from Uncle Brian and Aunt Denise's wedding, the fourth of July parade at Higgins Beach, uncle Greg's birthday party, lobsters at Chauncey Creek, a visit to Presque Isle and Aund Deb's new home, including the entire solar system, hiking on Mount Chocorua, swimming at the lake, dinner in New Gloucester afterward, and sailing to the Isles of Shoals.
The upper photo of Denise marching to the altar links to photos from the first half of the summer while the bottom photo of Amy in a kayak links to the second half. There are some scrambled items, which I hope to fix real soon now. If this is a bit too cryptic, and you can't figure out what is what, give us a call and chat! We'll be glad to sift through them with you.
And then there was that absolutely beautiful day, which started out with a shower, illustrating the oft cited truism about New England weather. We sailed out to the Isles of Shoals with the Mulligans and their schnoodles! It was great, though the wind wasn't much and the girls got bored for lack of excitement. For some reason I couldn't resist throwing in Amy's photos of her new hat, though they are a bit older. Shows Amy's hair when it was long, before the summer cut came along.
2004 June 5: Graduation!
Hot on the heels of senior prom must be graduation, and here are the pictures to prove it. Jess graduated this year from South River High School. The ceremony was held in The Show Place, an equestrian center with a huge arena. There were 400+ graduates, somewhat fewer than last year, confirming predictions of a class size bubble. As secretary of her class, Jess led the Pledge of Allegiance. As an honor student, she wore a special shroud. We haven't seen her since, as she left that evening for the beach parties of Ocean City. We hope to see some more of her this summer (and in Maine) before she heads for Boston University in the Fall!
2004 May 29: Senior Prom
Jessica and friends did the Senior Prom thing, complete with limousine and all night breakfasting. Thanks much to the Koch's for hosting the gathering at their beautiful home in Davidsonville, on a night that returned to cool spring weather. It looked like a lot of fun from where we parents stood and shot our photos. And the kids came back safely afterwards, so all's well. It's our last senior prom for a few years...
2004 March 25: Erin go Bragh!
We had a great first trip to Ireland the week of St. Paddy's day as a 20th anniversary treat to each other. The photo album at right has a selection of our photos. But the highlight of the trip was running into Ciaran Brennan at the pub in Glendalogh, where we were hanging out after eating dinner. Ciaran is the lead of Clannad, who won a Grammy in 1999, and brother of Enya (Brennan), who started her music career with Clannad and went solo. It was a rolicking good time with Noel (and his brother) joining in a wide ranging discussion of music and most everything else. If you happen to stumble in here, Ciaran or Noel, thanks again for a special evening!
